On any given day, you can read an article, a tweet, a blog, or listen to the news or a conversation on talk radio about our Black children's academic failures. Often the blame is placed on our teachers and at other times the blame is given to our families. JA Hunter Reads knows we need teachers and families working as partners to ensure literacy achievement for our children. I diligently work with a sense of urgency to provide our families, educators, and community groups with the information and strategies needed to give the gift of literacy to our Black children. Together, we can create life-long learners!
The Love Of Teaching Reading
My passion for reading extends beyond my business. I was an educator employed for the past 20+ years in Title One schools in Maryland. I’ve taught 2nd grade and 4th grade and was a former Reading Recovery Teacher before obtaining my Master’s Degree in Reading and becoming a certified Reading Specialist. In my last position as a Literacy Coach, I had the opportunity to work with classroom teachers, families, and administrators to ensure students were receiving the best literacy instruction possible. More importantly, I am an avid reader of both children and adult books!
